She was born in Jackson Springs, N.C., and came here in 1964 from Durham, N.C. She was a hairdresser. She sang in several choirs and enjoyed sewing, making dolls and restoring antique dolls. She was Methodist.

Survivors include two sons, Sherwood "Woody," Los Angeles, and Henry "Hank" Jr., Chicago; a daughter, Liz Max, New York City; a sister, Nina Redding, Lakeland; and two grandchildren.

She lived in Ware County, Hoboken, Norfolk, Va., Fitzgerald and Jacksonville, Florida. Ms. Nancy worked for 31 years caring for the elderly before retiring at age 81.

She loved flowers, gardening, cooking, sewing and most of all, loved to help people. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Survivors include: Two sons: Jerry E. Dryden(Judy) of Jacksonville; Ronald W. Dryden(Sara) of Fleming Island, Fl.; Three daughters: Betty Dryden Blair(Johnny) of Jacksonville, Fl.; Glenda Dryden Johnson(Glenn) of Callahan, Fl.; June Nancy Teague Beard of Folkston, Ga.; Seven Grandchildren; Six Great-grandchildren; Several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 15 siblings. Memorial Services will be Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Victory Baptist Church, Folkston at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Tim King and Jerry Dryden officiating.

Memorialization will be by Cremation.

4420 Nancy Elizabeth Sophronia "Tuppie" Hodges was born Dec 28, 1845 in Liberty County, GA. Tuppie married John Richard Sloan. John Richard Sloan was born in 1843, son of James Sloan (1808-1865) and Elizabeth "Eliza" Jones Sloan. John Richard Sloan's marriage to Tuppie was his second marriage. His first marriage was to Nancy ("Ann") Lang, daughter of Nathaniel Lang and Eleanor McCall Lang. Ann was born in 1846. John Richard and Ann married Sep 22, 1866. They had 5 children. Ann died Jan 10, 1880, when the children were small.
Tuppie was about 36 years old at the time of her marriage and John Richard was about 38 years old. Tuppie was a seamstress. She lived with Hattie, her sister, in Savannah for a few years and worked as a seamstress. After her marriage to John Richard, Tuppie raised her stepchildren from the time they were very young and was known to the whole family as “Big Mama.” The Sloan family lived in Alachua County, FL. Tuppie and John Richard had two babies who died in infancy. They also raised Tuppie’s adopted sister, Mary Hautense Mosely, accepting legal guardianship in 1890. John died Jan 27, 1895, at the age of 52 at LaCrosse, Alachua County, FL. Tuppie was widowed at age 50 and farmed with the help of Lula and Walter, her grown stepchildren, for the next few years in LaCrosse, Alachua County, FL. Tuppie died Sep 7, 1919, at the age of 73 and was buried in Elim Baptist Church Cemetery in present Long County.

4421 Nancy Jane Locklear, 81, of Castle Hayne, NC, died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born on June 17, 1933, the daughter of the late Timothy and Molly Gurganious. Also remembered is her daughter, Brenda Pierce and a brother Earl Gurganious, both of who preceded her in death.

Nancy was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an exceptional friend to all who knew her and will be remembered for her love of life, her laughter and the way she enjoyed telling a good joke.

Surviving is her husband, Eartle Locklear; a son, Timothy Locklear; two grandsons, Timothy Earl Locklear and Johnny Locklear; brother-in-law, Jerell Locklear and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Mildred Gurganious; nephew, Alan Locklear; niece Linda Carroll; good friends, Angie Crapper and Richard Hale; and many other cousins, extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday, July 21, 2014 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Chris Wroten officiating.

She is survived by her daughter Amy Kicklighter of Atlanta; sons, Dr. Van R. and wife Robin Kicklighter of Springfield, IL, Curtis L. Kicklighter of Villa Rica, GA: sister, Rose Mon-ard of NYC: grandchildren, Nicole Turner, Caleb Kicklighter, Erin Kicklighter, Brooke Kicklighter.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray S. Kicklighter; sisters Tressa Schick and Ruth Schaeffer.

She enjoyed volunteering at Winship Cancer Institute at Emory, YWCA, was a member at Wieuca Road Baptist Church and spending time in Prairie Sound, Ontario.

Memorial services will be held 1pm on Wednesday, October 10 in the chapel at 1st Baptist Church of Atlanta.

4423 Nancy Maria Degler, age 100, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away May 30, 2020. Born on June 7, 1919 in Baxley, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Mary and John Victor Kersey.

Nancy was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She was retired from Levy United Methodist Church, She enjoyed cooking, quilting and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard Linville Degler, Sr., her children Howard Linville Degler Jr. and his wife Dixie, Levi Henry Degler, Johnnie Ralph Degler, her siblings Edgar Kersey, A.J. Kersey and his wife Eddie Mae, Susie Page, Buck Kersey and his wife Louise, Gig Kersey, Robert Kersey and his wife Deanie, Sarah Johnson and her husband Lloyd, Junior Kersey and his wife Carolyn, and Tommy Kersey and his wife Luella, her nephew Mike Page, her special grandson Joshua Rober William Allen Degler, and her sons-in-law Eugene Bryant and Clifton Bryant,

She is survived by her children Mary Jane Caroline Bryant, Gladys Louise Robins and her husband Jack, Inez Laverne Garney, Hazel Fern Bryant, Robert Edward Degler and his wife Marty, Danny Raye Degler, her sister Nera Hand (Skeet), daughter-in-law Norma Louise Degler, and her sisters-in-law Luellia Kersey and Carolyn Kersey. Mrs. Degler is also survived by her other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020 at Olmstead Funeral Home with a visitation just prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Heber Springs Cemetery.

4425 Naomi M. Barlow Naomi Charlotte Mauck Barlow, age 91, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA, on the evening of Monday, October 13, 2014.

Born on November 28, 1922, in Harrisonburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Gladys Brubaker Mauck.

Mrs. Barlow was surrounded by love throughout her life by many family members and friends, and has now left this world to live with the Lord. Mrs. Barlow was known to everyone, family, friends, acquaintances, and the community, as our beloved "Granny." She was a member of Elkton Presbyterian Church for a celebrated 50+ years, as well as a treasured member of the American Legion Cecil Post #15 Women's Auxiliary, both in Elkton. Mrs. Barlow loved sharing stories about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barlow was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Alton Glenn Barlow, Sr., who passed away in 1988; and her siblings, Alvin, Barbara and Melverine.

Survivors include her children, Alton Glenn Barlow, Jr. and wife, Carol Ann "Annie" Herron Barlow, and Charlotte Barlow Kaputa; grandchildren, Alton Glenn "A.G." Barlow, III and wife, Stephanie Simek Barlow, Lindsay Brooke Barlow Williamson and husband, Ryan Adam Williamson, David Reed Barlow and wife, Pia Chaozon Barlow, Stephen James Kaputa and girlfriend, Anna Riabtsev, and Robert Bradley Barlow; great-grandchildren, Ansley Kate Barlow, Blake Mauldin Williamson, Reed Arling Williamson, Ella Brooke Williamson and Cassius Cole Barlow; siblings, Harold and Lois; and many other extended family members and close friends.

A celebration of Mrs. Barlow's life will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, October 20, 2014, at Elkton Presbyterian Church, 209 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow the service in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton.

WALLACE, NAOMI WILKES, November 27, 1930 - December 18, 2010. Naomi was born in Patrick, SC; the daughter of John Franklin Wilkes and Bernice Stroud Wilkes; married Francis Marion Wallace, who was her true love, in 1949, and they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Dec. 3, 2010.

Naomi was very active in her community and she and her family lived in Astatula, FL for 30 years before moving to Lake Mary, FL. Naomi enjoyed her career as Postmaster with the US Postal Service, her last appointed office being Lake Mary, FL on March 1, 1983; after 25 years of service, she retired in 1990.

She is survived by her husband Francis Marion Wallace; four children, John and Virginia Wallace Stoner, Roger and Frances Wallace Morgan, John and Seleta Wallace, and Karol Wallace; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved dearly, and one brother, Donald Wilkes.

She was preceded in death by four brothers; John Wilkes Jr., Herbert Wilkes, Richard Wilkes, and Harry Wilkes.

He was born in Register, GA., to Nathan Brown, Sr., and Maxie Underwood Brown.

He had worked for Union Camp 43 years before he retired.

Nathan was a member of the Garden City Primitive Baptist Church, where he was a charter member. He served as deacon, superintendent of the adult Bible study, and son leader. He was also a member of the Woodman of the World.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Hulda Daughtry.

Nathan is survived by his wife Mildred Powell Brown; a daughter, Lynette NeSmith; a sister, Jacquline Shuman; a sister-in-law, Law Grace Powell Findley; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be Friday 6-8 p.m. at Massey-Framke Funeral Care.

Services will be Saturday 10 a.m. at Massey-Framke Chapel with The Elder Marvin Paulk, Elder M.C. Riner, and Elder Lindy Webb Sr., officiating the services.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Tattnall County, viewing will be from 1:30 p.m. till service time at the Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Jim Parnell officating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.

He was born Dec. 15, 1938, in Orangeburg, the son of the late Norman Archie Wilkes and the late Jacqueline Hodges Wilkes Wactor. He was a 1963 graduate from The Citadel. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was a retired engineer from the Atlanta Highway Department and was a member of First Baptist Church in Atlanta.

Survivors include his sister, Dixie Shealy of Orangeburg; a niece, Sheila Ann Shealy of Charleston; and a nephew, Michael Shealy of Clarksville, Tenn.

Ned Fuller Dicks, 84, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Lake City Medical Center. He was born here in Columbia County to the late Drew and Mary Jane (Jones) Dicks and has stayed here all his life. He retired from the Department of Transportation in 1990 after 35 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed doing small engine repair, and was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and his wife of 50 years, Lois Dicks.

Survivors include his children, Betty, Bobby (Kathy), Peggy (Porky) and Johnny; brothers, Roosevelt and Wayne Dicks of Lake City, FL & Archie of England; sisters, Louise Crews, Gay Roberts, & Quinn Boone all of Lake City, FL; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Hopeful Baptist Church with Dr. Rodney Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery. 4441 Needham served as Justice of the Peace in the 1130th district, being commissioned 15 Mar 1861 and serving until his death a few months later. The deaths of Needham and Harriett Sears McLendon left their large family of children without parents, most of them still young. They were taken in charge by Harrison Sears and his wife and reared untill they were either married or old enough to support themselves. ddMr Sears was the administrator of the McLendon estate. Although the estate wasappraised at $3044.50 (a fairly largea sum in those days) its value soon was gone in the years that followed the end of the civil war.

Irene williams obtained most of this information from Lula McQuaig Hays. Lula was my Aunt and the daughter of Mary Elizabeth (Polly) McLendon who was married to James Alexander McQuaig.

Mrs. Coffee was born September 5, 1914 to the late George W. and Arrie Bullard Green, in Columbia County, Fl. where she graduated from Columbia High School. Then employed by the Interstate Commerce Commission in Jacksonville, Fl. until she retired in 1974 back to Lake City. She is preceded in death by her husband Claude C. Coffee. She was a Christian who loved her family and family gatherings. She enjoyed the god given beauty of the outdoors, where she spent much of her spare time. Her special joy was working in, and sharing, her flower and vegetable garden. She was a former member of the Lake City Garden Club and the Lake City Newcomers Club which she enjoyed.

Survivors include one brother: Calvin (Ruby) Green, Lake City, Fl. One sister: Violet Green Seay, Lake City, Fl. numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Thursday June 17, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Barney Hurst, officiating. Nellie Lee Robinson Wentworth, age 65, of Jasper, Florida passed away at Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, FL. on Thursday, June 25, 2015.

Nellie was born in Jasper, Florida to the late Kirby and Gussie Amerson Robinson on March 9, 1950. She graduated from Hamilton County High School. Nellie worked for a number of years at Hamilton Correctional and Madison Correctional Institutions. She later went to work in the management of local convenient stores. Nellie was loved by everyone who knew her. She was plain spoken which made her all the more lovable. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Kirby and Gussie Robinson, a brother, Kirby Jr., a sister, Betty Jean Land and a beloved daughter, Linda Wentworth.

Survivors include two sons, George H. Bowen, Cochran, GA. and Jamie L. Bowen Sr. and his wife Charlyn, Jasper, FL.; one daughter, Tondia L. Ratliff and her husband Chauncey Sr., Jasper, FL.; her husband, Johnathan Wentworth, Jasper, FL.; one brother, Tommy Joe Robinson, Jasper, FL.; five sisters, Myrtle Smith, Angie Padgett, Jan Hunter, and Janice Smith, all of Jasper, FL., Brenda Thompson, Sylvania, GA.; eight grandchildren, Ariel, Makaila, C.J., Katie, Jamie Jr., Hope, Melanie and Emily; one great grandson, Kaydon.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011, at Crestview Baptist Church in Orangeburg, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. James Preveaux will officiate. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg is in charge.

Mrs. Wrenn was born in Neeses, the daughter of the late Jesse O. Kemmerlin and the late Mary Evie Fogle Kemmerlin. She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and had retired from The Regional Medical Center and Orangeburg Regional Hospital.

She was the widow of the late Hugh E. Wrenn and was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Kemmerlin.

Survivors include two nephews, Stephen and Terri Kemmerlin of Varnville, and Hal Kemmerlin of Bamberg; niece, Robin and Mark Courtney of Lexington; great-niece, Cassie Kemmerlin of Varnville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

4450 Nettie E. Sheppard, 77, of Hollister, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Putnam County, Nettie was a food service worker at Kelly Smith Elementary School for 34 years, retiring in 2000. During the summer months, she also ran a canning program at the school. Nettie was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Johnson and in her leisure time enjoyed canning and reading.

She is survived by a son, William Edward Sheppard, Jr. of Hollister, 3 daughters, Doris Tate of Hollister, Faye Tryre and husband Mike of Interlachen and Glenda Rogers of Interlachen, a sister, Reece Sheppard of Bardin , 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews as well as countless ones that she took under her wings over the years.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 9, 2015 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastors L.D. Osteen and Charles Litzell officiating.

Burial will follow at Etoniah Cemetery in Bardin. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
