- Mrs. Bessie Wilkes Shortridge, age 90 of Rockledge died Friday, June 8, 2012.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton, at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, with the Rev. George Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Rockledge.
Mrs. Shortridge was born in Laurens County and was preceded in death by her parents, G.W. and Hattie Mae Wade Wilkes, husband, Jack M. Shortridge, brothers, Ralph Wilkes and Ernest Wilkes, and sisters, Eunice Davis and Louise Wilkes.
She was a long time resident of Jacksonville, FL and a graduate of Jacksonville College and Mitchem Business College, Griffin. She had been a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years and served as Past Worthy Matron. She was retired from Gulf Life Insurance Company, Jacksonville, FL after 40 years of service and was a member of First Baptist Church, Soperton, and Helen Perry Sunday School Class.
Survivors include a niece, Mona Hudson, Mobile, AL; nephews, Ronnie (Cheryl) Wilkes, Rockledge, Steve Davis, Athens; and several great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday one hour before services.
