  Don W. Wilkes WILKES Don W. Wilkes, 66, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on August 25, 2009. Don grew up in Savannah, GA and had lived the last 29 years in Jacksonville. He had proudly served in the United States Army. Don started his career as a papermaker and was recruited by the AFL-CIO to become one of their finest international union representatives in the southern states. For the last 4 years of his career he was the Director of the PACE Benefits Pension Fund in Nashville, TN. Don is survived by his children, Christopher Wilkes, Greg Wilkes, Vicki Wilkes Caraway, her husband, John Horak, and Michael Wilkes; brother, Jerry Wilkes; grandchildren, Justin, Evan, Robbie, Thomas, Lindsay, Grace, Ashton, Carrington and DJ; the mother of his children, Linda Guadagno; longtime friend and companion, Karol Fleming; and many other family members and friends. The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, August 29, 2009 in the funeral home chapel. Don will be laid to rest in Arlington Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute (Thoracic Research Fund), 12902 Magnolia Dr., Tampa, FL 33612.
