    • Byron W. Wilkes
Byron W. Wilkes, 48, died Thursday of a sudden illness. Byron was a multimedia artist who leaves behind a rich body of work. He created cover art for bands including Drive-By Truckers and Fiddleworms. As a businessman, he owned several establishments throughout the years, selling comics, books and collectibles. Byron was a graduate of Coffee High School and Auburn University. He also was employed with Anderson Books for a number of years. Perhaps his greatest legacy exists in the multitude of people for whom he has been an inspiration for artistic and personal expression.

He is survived by brother, Ricky, and Carolyn Wilkes, of Hazel Green; aunt, Pearl Holland; uncle, Fielder Moomaw; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Evelyn Wilkes.

Countless friends mourn his passing. We are all immensely grateful for having been privileged to know him, and our artistic community will be forever richer because of his influence.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Greenview Funeral Home. Service is at 11 a.m. at Greenview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Sonny Owens. Friends are invited to gather at his residence after services for a celebration of his life.
