- A lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, Cynthia Jean McRae Bailey died Thursday, January 21, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Finley McRae; her mother, Lucille Thompson McRae; her sister, Mary Duncan McRae Tonsmeire and Dunc's husband Plumer Burgett Tonsmeire.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Frances Bailey Unger (Mike); Elizabeth Jean Bailey Wester (Zeph); Melissa Claire Bailey Massa (Chris); son, James Carroll Bailey, Jr. (Kristi); James Carroll Bailey; brother, John Finley McRae, Jr. (Bette); eight grandchildren Clayton Finley Massa, Mary Frances Unger, Drake Christopher Massa, Michael Alexander Unger, Sarah Bailey Massa, Audrey Claire Bailey, Camille Anne Bailey, Emory Katherine Bailey; nieces and nephews, to whom she is fondly known as "Beanie," and other dearly loved relatives and friends.
Jean enjoyed a fulfilling career at the University of South Alabama School of Medicine, earning her Master of Business degree while there. She later served as the Chief Financial Officer at Tool Expo Corporation with her son Jimbo. She lived for her family and loved any and every opportunity to spend time with them. Traveling with family and friends were some of her favorite times. Jean never met a stranger and enjoyed getting to know everyone. She was generous beyond compare and was always there when you needed her.
The family would also like to gratefully acknowledge the loving caretakers who brought her peace and comfort in her final days, especially Paciana Alexander.
Due to COVID concerns, an immediate family-only limited graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Pinecrest Cemetery.
While a public celebration of life is not possible at this time, the family welcomes your favorite memories of Jean shared to her Memorial pages on the Pinecrest Cemetery and Legacy websites. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, or the charity of choice.
