- Otis Crews
Mr. Otis Crews, 91, of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on November 19, 1923, in Hamilton County to the late Joe and Arrie Crews. He served ten years in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He also served 10 years in the Air Force along with ten years in the Air Force reserve, retiring in 1972. He also was a City Mail Carrier for 23 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Ocala. He was a member of the Parkview Baptist Church and was a past member of the Wyomina Park Baptist Church in Ocala and a member of the Marion-Dunn Masonic Lodge in Ocala. He loved gospel, bluegrass and old time country music, he sang in the church choir for many years as well. Yard work and gardening were not chores to him, but enjoyment. He also loved to travel our country and also Europe with his wife Ethel, which brought him some of his most treasured memories.
He is preceded in death by his brothers: Ernest, Emory, Clyde and Vernon Crews; sisters: Eva Wheeler, Ada Dubberly, Marie King and Emma Jean Morrell; first wife: Janice Brannen Crews and daughter: Patricia Anne Crews.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years: Ethel Crews of Lake City; son: Gordon B. Crews (Virginia) of Bend, Oregon; daughters: Glenda C. O'Donnell (Robert) of Trinity, FL and Cathy C. Baker (Michael) of Springboro, OH. Three brothers J. Paul Crews, Jacksonville, FL; William Eldridge Crews (Betty) Lake City, FL; and Lenvil Crews, Sarasota, FL; grandchildren: Brian Baker, Bradley Baker, Sean O'Donnell, Kevin O'Donnell and Jennifer Varvarigos, and twelve great-grandchildren; step-children: Duyral Reynolds, Debra Webb and Renita Dennis also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Crews will be conducted on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 10 A.M. in the chapel of the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Tatem of Parkview Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, October 2, 2015 from 6-8 P.M. in the chapel of the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations please be made to alzheimers.org or to the Parkview Baptist Church in memory of Otis Crews.
