- Mr. William Eldridge "Bill" Crews, 86, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 at his home after a lengthy battle with COPD. He was born February 2, 1929 to the late Joseph and Arrie Rhoden Crews. He attended public school in Columbia County and earned a business degree from Massey Business College in Jacksonville, FL and attended Jacksonville University studying accounting. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his service to our country he returned to Lake City. He was a business manager for Power's Service for a few years and then opened his book keeping and tax preparation service. Mr. Crews was elected Clerk of Circuit Court of Columbia County and served from 1968 through 1976. He then became a land developer and residential home builder until his retirement. He was a member of the Lake City Shrine Club and past president of the Lake City Kiwanis Club. Mr. Crews was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and a past member of the First Advent Christian Church of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Earnest, Emory, Clyde, Vernon and Otis Crews; and his sisters, Eva Wheeler, Ada Dubberly, Marie King and Emma Jean Morrell.
Mr. Crews truly loved his family and is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Bryan Crews; son, Don (Sheila) Crews; daughters, Karen (Mike) Smith and Angie (Tom) Witt; grandchildren, Brad, Mara and Bryce Crews, Hunter Smith, Katherine (Trevor) Caslin and Caroline Witt: great granddaughters, Chloe and Shyla; and two brothers, Paul Crews and Lenvil (Mary) Crews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 am at Parkview Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Tatem officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday from 10-11:00 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Parkview Baptist Church Building Fund at 268 NW Lake Jeffery Road, Lake City, FL 32055.
Arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S US Hwy 441, Lake City.
