	Jean Hodges Mizell, of Callahan, passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 7, 2022, surrounded by her husband and sons, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born May 18, 1935 to Walter Willis Hodges, Jr. and Helen Beasley Hodges in Jacksonville. Mrs. Mizell lived her entire 86 years on her family farm on Hodges Road in Callahan. She enjoyed telling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren stories from her childhood when her mother made her dresses by hand from feed sacks. Mrs. Mizell attended Callahan High School, where she met her future husband, Dorman, during the crowning of the king and queen of Halloween. She was in eighth grade at the time and he was a senior. Mrs. Mizell graduated from Callahan High School in 1953 and married Dorman shortly after her 18th birthday. After they married, Dorman joined her father in the family business, Hodges Poultry Farm. The farm produced eggs and chicks for 85 years and employed five generations of the Hodges and Mizell families. Mr. Dorman and Mrs. Jean raised four sons, and have been Grandma and Grandpa to 11 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Their marriage of nearly 69 years has been an example of faith, true love and devotion. Mrs. Mizell will be remembered as a genuine Southern lady who always showed grace and love toward others. Faith was very important to Mrs. Mizell. She was a lifelong member of Callahan First Baptist Church of Callahan. She also carried on her family legacy by being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the West Nassau Genealogical Society and the Order of the Eastern Star. More than anything else, she loved spending time with her family. Mrs. Mizell is survived by her husband Dorman; sons Clyde (Lucy) Mizell, Larry (Ann) Mizell, Mike Mizell and Walt (Denise) Mizell; grandchildren Stephen (Heidi) Mizell, Ronnie Hammer, Jason (Trina) Mizell, Adam (Carrie) Mizell, Amy (Kevin) Green, Justin (Regina) Mizell, Emily (Tommy) Geiger, Luke (Krystie) Mizell, Kayla Mizell, Devin (Erica) Mizell and Grant Mizell; and 22 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 12 at Callahan First Baptist Church at 10 a.m. prior to the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Dr. Stephen Mizell officiating.
