    • The funeral for Lawrence B. Ryan, 81, retired from Potlatch Corp. at Lewiston, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel at Lewiston. The Rev. Tom Hansen of the Congregational-Presbyterian Church at Lewiston will officiate.

      Burial will follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens at Lewiston.

      He died Saturday at his Lewiston home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

      He was born April 8, 1915, to Clarence Grover and Flecie Shinn Ryan at Canfield, Idaho, near Cottonwood. He grew up and attended school in that area.

      In his youth, he worked on ranches in the White Bird and Joseph Plains areas.

      He married Ida Mae Kennedy Jan. 20, 1940, at Grangeville. The couple made their home at Auburn, Wash., where he worked on the railroad until 1946.

      They moved to Lewiston in 1946. He worked for Potlatch Corp. there for 32 years as a tail sawyer on the wood side, retiring in 1978.

      He enjoyed fishing, gardening, dancing and horses.

      Survivors include his wife at the couple's Lewiston home; a daughter, Deanna Stewart of Foster City, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth Ryan of Lewiston and Arthur Ryan of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; a sister, Vesta Miller of Coeur d'Alene; and three grandchildren.

      A daughter, Sherry Lea Ryan, died previously.
