- SATURDAY- Mr. Gilbert Franklin "Frank" Saturday,
age 87, of Kingsland passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, Fla., on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016.
Mr. Saturday was born on June 5, 1928, in Tattnall County. He was the son of the late Levi and Clara Cowart Saturday. Mr. Saturday served honorably in World War II and later during the Korean War. He was discharged due to the loss of two of his brothers during World War II.
Mr. Saturday moved to Kingsland in 1960. He worked at Kraft Bag until its closing and then later for James River Paper until his retirement. Mr. Saturday enjoyed his family and loved to cook in the backyard. He was always busy doing things for anyone that would ask him. He liked to travel with his wife, Betty, to the Georgia/Tennessee mountains. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsland and was a faithful supporter of the Zeta Beta Sorority for 25 years.
Mr. Saturday is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Betty Farlow Saturday; his children, Danny and his wife Olivia Saturday of Valdosta, Billy and his wife Kimberly Saturday and Randy Saturday all of Kingsland, and Kim and her husband Jeff Cook of Yulee, Fla.; his 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his sister, Dorothy Findley of Statesboro; his beloved brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dwayne and Bobbi Tucker of Metter; his faithful friends and neighbors, Hollon and Betty Crosby of Kingsland; and family friend, Rita Young.
Along with his parents, Mr. Saturday joins his brothers, Levi Parks Saturday Jr., Wilber H. Saturday, Elvin L. Saturday, Emmett B. Saturday and his great-grandson, Tanner, in heaven.
Calling hours for the Saturday family were from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Coastal Camden Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, in Coastal Camden Funeral Home's Woods-Wainwright Chapel with Pastor Bob Hughes presiding. Burial and committal prayer was held at 4 p.m. at Lake Cemetery in Metter.
The family requests any memorial contributions in Mr. Saturday's honor be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Coastal Georgia Regional Office, 201 Television Circle, Savannah, GA 31406.
Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland is entrusted with Mr. Saturday's arrangements.
