COBBTOWN/CLAXTON Mr. Charles Edward Wildes, 98, of the Hillview Community, died Sunday in his home where he was born June 1, 1907. He was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County and a retired farmer. He was a member of Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church and the Roger Wood Masonic Lodge. Mr. Charlie's love of genealogy inspired him to author and publish three books, The History of Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Bridger Jones II Family and Once Upon a Time in Tattnall County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Editha Boyett Wildes, his son Martin, to whom he gave daily care for 43 years until 2004 and a son-in-law, Benjie Smith.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Farrell and Jan Wildes of Ringgold, Jay and Julia Wildes of Hillview Community, Vann and Marilyn Wildes of Hoschton; six daughters and sons-in-law, Norma Wildes, Mary and Jimmy Sapp, all of Statesboro, Carolyn Smith of Reidsville, Martha and Carl Lacy of Conroe, Tex., Faye Kennedy and Kaye Wildes, both of Metter; two sisters-in-law, Dera Bicaise of Charleston and Tyeile Williamson of Lyons; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral Home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
