    A native of Lake City, he resided in Palatka since 1949, coming from Jacksonville. He retired from Georgia-Pacific as a pipe fitter after 44 years of service. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in WWII and was a member of American Legion Post 45, Lemon Heights Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World.

    He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Tyler.

    He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlene Tyler of Palatka; a daughter, Phyllis Bayatzadeh of Miami; a sister, Margaret Cole of Jacksonville; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Tyler of Warwick, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Bayatzadeh and Christopher, Matthew and Daniel Tyler, and two great-grandchildren, Tristie and Amber Tyler.

    Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with the Rev. Eddie Humes officiating. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens with the U.S. Army conducting military honors.

    Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.

    John A. Wilkes, Jr. - 92
    Of Valdosta, GA passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in the Langdale Hospice House.

    He was born on October 31, 1924 in Naylor, GA to the late John & Ruth (Tyler) Wilkes. Mr. Wilkes served in the United States Army during WWII and was a member of Pleasant Way Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wilkes and a daughter, Catherine Geddings.

    Pamela & Charles Saul of Okeechobee, FL;
    Grandchildren, Donna Hedgepath, John Eberhard, Jason Geddings;

    Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Pleasant Way Baptist Church in Valdosta with burial to follow in the church cemetery. No formal visitation will be held.     She was born August 15, 1931 in Naylor, Georgia to the late John A and Ruth Wilkes. She was a member of Pleasant Way Baptist Church and served as the church pianist for over 50 years. She was married to the late Gilbert David “Sam” Yancey, Sr. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers John A. Wilkes, Jr. and Jimmy M. Wilkes. She was the owner of the Lanier County Freezer Locker.

    Catherine "Cathy" Geddings- 53
    Of Naylor, GA passed away Thursday December 19, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta following an unexpected illness.

    She was born April 13, 1960 in Palatka, FL to John A. Wilkes and the late Mary Elizabeth Williams Wilkes. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by an infant brother John Andy Wilkes.

    She was a member of the Pleasant Way Baptist Church in Lowndes County. She Graduated from Valdosta State University, then received her master's degree from Nova Southeastern University. She changed lives of many young people by being a teacher with the Valdosta City School System, where she taught high school 20 years. She also loved quilting and was a member of the Withlacoochee Quilt Guild. She had a love of animals, especially cats. Her big heart and sweet and giving spirit continued after her death by being an organ donor.
