    Barney Alford
    (December 21, 1915 - February 15, 2007)

    Mr. Barney Alford, 91, of Lake City, died early Thursday morning, February 15, 2007, in the Lake City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Columbia County, Mr. Alford was the son of the late Francis & Alice Hines Alford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Africa and Europe during W.W. II. Mr. Alford retired from the V.A. Medical Center in Lake City after seventeen years of service as a maintenance technician. In his spare time he enjoyed doing yard work. Mr. Alford was a member of the V.F.W. and the Huntsville Baptist Church. Mr. Alford was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Skinner Alford.

    Mr. Alford is survived by two daughters, Bonita Wheeler (Billy) and Betty Glover (Doyle); and three sons, Velton Alford (Charlene); Neal Alford (Diane) all of Lake City and Edward Alford of Pomona Park, Florida. 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren also survive. Numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends also survive.

    Funeral services for Mr. Alford will be conducted Monday, February 19, 2007 in the Chapel of Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Steele officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery (located on 441 North of Lake City). The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5:00P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

    Cora Lee Albritton of Lake City died early Sunday morning in the Palm Gardens Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was 77. Mrs. Lee was a life-long resident of Columbia County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
    Mrs Lee was preceded in death by her daughter, Joanne Williams.

    She is survived by her husband Cozzie Albritton; a son, Jimmy Albritton of Lake Butler; two daughters Shirley Sutton and Norma Jean Darley both of Lake City; a sister Beth Mehrshon of Lake City; two brothers Barney Alford of Lake City and Bill Alford of Jasper, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

    Our Mom, Foy Alford Stiles, 100, of Lake City passed away peacefully on Friday, August 4, 2023, at The Canopy at Harper Lake ALF. She was born in northern Columbia County to the late Christopher Columbus Alford and Mary Alma Melton on July 17, 1923. She was born, raised, and worked on the family farm alongside her parents and siblings until she moved to town and took a job at the Lake City Bus Station in 1944. In the summer of 1945 she met our Daddy, Gilbert E. Stiles, when he was returning to Camp Blanding from being on leave while in the Army. They married on August 25, 1945, and were married for 63 years until his passing in 2008. She truly was the love of his life. Together they raised seven children.

    Having a gift for growing things, she enjoyed tending to her plants and mowing the yard up into her 80's. She loved raising chickens, ducks and had an affinity for all small animals. She had various hobbies and always stayed busy. In addition, she and Daddy spent the majority of their marriage fishing on the upper Suwannee River and playing cards together.

    She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Willie, John, Bill, and Butler Alford and her only sister, Ruth Woods as well as a son, Rickey E. Stiles, Sr. (2006) and two great great-grandchildren, Kyler and AnaGrace Miller (2021).

    She is survived by her children; Judy Ann Stiles, Ronald Daniel Stiles (Kim), Pamela Gail Hagerman, Laurel Katrina Lutze (Ron), Harry Russell Stiles and Penny Stiles Faris (Harvey). She is also survived by Seventeen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren & fourteen great great-grandchildren.

    At Mama's request, a private family service was held. She was laid to rest next to Daddy at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Lake City, FL. Arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S US Hwy 441, Lake City, FL 32025. Please leave words of comfort for the family at www.gatewayforestlawn.com.
