    Notes:

Longtime Lake City attorney Dale Cason Ferguson, a former member of a number of local civic organizations, died Thursday at the age of 69.

Ferguson, who died at his home on Thursday, was the son of the late W. Joe and Meredythe Cason Ferguson, and was the descendant of a fourth-generation pioneer family in Columbia County. He graduated from the University of Florida School of Law in 1963 and was a practicing attorney for 46 years, operating a general practice law firm on Madison Street in Lake City.

He was a member of Wellborn Baptist Church and was active in various civic organizations, including the Kiwanis Club of Lake City. He leaves behind a wife of 47 years, Joy Spradley Ferguson, three children - Terri Bicknell, Susan (Oliver) Kraut and Steven Ferguson - and six grandchildren.

Norbie Ronsonet Jr., who served in the Kiwanis Club with Ferguson for many years, said he considered Ferguson a close friend.

"I’ve known Dale most of my adult life," Ronsonet said Friday. "We’ve served on many boards together and I would consider him a mentor. He was a well-liked fellow, and I went to see him Tuesday night and he was kind of peaceful - you could tell he knew what was going on and accepted it. It made me feel good that I went to see him because I didn’t know how dire it was at that time."

Ronsonet said Ferguson was very intelligent, but quiet - "he was smart enough to listen while everyone else just talked on" - but would always be willing to give advice.

"He was a very well-liked person, a very successful person," Ronsonet said. "He was one of the good ones and he will be sorely missed."

Funeral services are scheduled to take place 3 p.m. Sunday at Gateway-Forest Funeral Home with Elder Herman Griffin officiating, assisted by Dr. Don Minshew and the Rev. Elmer Crews. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation with family will take place today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
